BBL Hero

What is BBL?

BBL is an advanced version of IPL (intense pulsed light). BBL® (broad band light) is a non-ablative laser, targeting the underlying layers of the skin while not damaging the outermost layer of skin. This laser treatment is designed to address pigment-related concerns like brown spots, sun damage, redness, and rosacea. By penetrating the epidermis, BBL® targets pigment-producing cells, dispersing uneven pigmentation. This versatile treatment can be applied to various areas such as the face, neck, chest, shoulders, arms, and legs. It’s fast, minimally uncomfortable, and entails little-to-no downtime.

What does BBL treat?

  • Brown spots
  • Freckles Sun damage
  • Broken capillaries
  • Redness
  • Rosacea
  • Hyperpigmentation

What should I expect from a BBL treatment?

Following a BBL treatment, you may experience temporary redness and a mild sensation similar to a sunburn, typically lasting 30-60 minutes. The treated pigment may darken within a few hours post-treatment, resembling coffee grounds on the skin but without texture. The spots will darken more in the following days and typically shed naturally over the course of 7-10 days, revealing brighter, more even toned skin underneath. This varies depending on the site treated.

Who is a good candidate for BBL?

Candidates with higher Fitzpatrick scores, individuals with tans or active sunburns, and those with melasma are NOT ideal candidates. Due to the laser’s focus on pigment, darker skin tones may experience discoloration, and melasma patches can darken further. A consultation with one of our laser technicians is the best way to see if you are a good candidate for BBL treatment.

Does BBL hurt?

Although pain tolerance varies among individuals, most find BBL Hero tolerable and similar to the sensation of a rubber band snap on the skin. Most clients do not require topical anesthetic.

Before treatment and precautions

  • Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, or spray tans for at least 2 weeks BEFORE and AFTER your treatment. If recent exposure is evident or if you are too tan, your appointment will be rescheduled.
  • Individuals with implanted devices such as pacemakers or defibrillators, vitiligo, skin cancer (or undergoing cancer drug therapy), epilepsy/seizures, pregnancy, or impaired immune systems are not suitable candidates for this treatment. Please let your laser technician know if you have any of these conditions.
  • Discontinue the use of antibiotics, tetracycline, St. John’s Wort, retinol, Retin-A®, or tretinoin, at least 2 weeks before treatment, as these medications are photosensitizing and may increase the risk of burning.
  • For those who have been on Accutane (isotretinoin) , it is necessary to wait at least 6 months to a year after the final use before undergoing any type of laser treatment.
  • Keep a gentle skincare routine and avoid all scrubs, exfoliants, chemical peels and/or acids, or any form of Retinol/Retin-A®.
  • Pre-medication is required for individuals with inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema or active herpes simplex virus. Please let your laser technician know if you have any of these conditions.
  • It is a MUST for you to use SPF 30+ daily to all treatment areas, even on cloudy days. If outside, try to reapply every 2 hours. Protecting your skin will prolong your results.
