What is the treatment like?
Typically, Moxi appointments last around 1 hour, varying based on the treated area. The treatment itself spans about 15-30 minutes, with additional time allotted for numbing beforehand. After the treatment, your skin may appear red, feeling similar to a sunburn. While you may experience some heat during the procedure, it is generally well-tolerated. Following the session, you can expect 1-3 days of downtime, and around 1 week of full healing time, during which aerobic activities and makeup application should be avoided. Once the redness subsides, you can resume most regular activities and makeup use.
Before and After:
Preparation
- Ensure your skin is not sunburned before treatment. Refrain from direct sun exposure, tanning bed, or self tanner use for at least two weeks before your appointment. Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, with SPF 30 or higher, reapplying if outside for more than two hours.
- Avoid using vitamin A products one week before treatment.
- Refrain from waxing or using hair removal cream in the treatment area for 7 days before your appointment.
- Notify us if you have a history of cold sores; we will provide resources to start the day before your procedure to reduce the risk of flare-ups after your treatment.
- Inform your technician of any allergies, including medication.
Aftercare
- Expect some redness on the day following Moxi treatment, along with small dark spots on your skin, known as “mends” where the laser was applied.
- As the skin heals, areas may darken and feel rough similar to a “sandpaper” feeling.
- Between days 3 and 5, the mends will naturally slough off, revealing new skin underneath. Do not pick or scratch these areas.
- Wash your skin morning and night using a gentle cleanser. Keep your skin moisturized and apply your preferred physical barrier sunscreen.
